When it comes to eyebrows, everybody wants the same thing: an expressive pair that will enhance their natural beauty.
Lately, you might be hearing a lot about eyebrow lamination and tint. Whether you’ve read it in Cosmo or you’ve seen it plastered all over celebrity social media accounts, you know that many women swear that they bring character to your looks.
With so many beauty trends nowadays, how are you supposed to know if eyebrow lamination and eyebrow tinting are the best options for you?
And what about proper brow lamination aftercare? Is it hard to maintain them?
What is Brow Lamination? Is This the Same as Brow Tinting?
Brow lamination and tinting are very popular semi-permanent procedures that can make your brows look fuller, darker, and more defined.
While most people think they are the same, they are actually two very different treatments that are often paired together in one appointment.
Brow Lamination
Lamination is a technique used to thicken and reshape the eyebrow. It involves applying a clear gel-like chemical solution over your brushed natural brows.
This chemical process essentially creates a protective layer over the brushed brow and sets them in their new shape and appearance.
Since the effect lasts anywhere from three to six weeks, some people also call it a brow perm.
Brow Tinting
Unlike getting a perm tattoo, tinting is just the process of using a semi-permanent dye to color the hair on your eyebrows.
It's also different from your regular eyebrow pencil or brow gel because the eyebrow tint lasts longer and doesn't require any maintenance after it's been applied.
The dye adheres directly to the hair and will gradually fade over time. They are great for people who want to fill in sparse eyebrows or disguise gaps between brow hairs.
Should YOU Get a Brow Lamination Treatment?
The best way to know if you should get this procedure is by taking stock of your situation. Do any of these conditions apply to you?
You have patchy or sparse eyebrows
You have unruly or thinning brows
The shape isn't what you want it to be
The color doesn't match
You hate applying brow products every time you go out
If yes, then lamination is a great option for you!
In addition to filling in sparse areas, lamination helps create more natural-looking brows with no exaggerated or over-dramatic result. They will just give you an illusion of having fuller, more defined brows.
Some people choose to get their eyebrows tinted as well to match the eyebrows with their natural hair color.
What to Expect During the Procedure
It only takes about an hour or so to have a semi-permanent on-fleek brows!
You may find the lamination process a bit similar to how natural lashes are being treated and improved. The first step is to cleanse the brow area and get rid of dirt, oil and makeup. Excess hair will be removed through brow waxing or threading.
Then, your certified aesthetician will put a mild cream on your brows before brushing them up to their desired position. To hold the brows in place, a cosmetic foil or plastic wrap will be placed on top for a few minutes until the products settle.
After this, all products used will be gently removed from your brows before putting the final touches on. To make sure you still have hydrated eyebrow hairs after the chemical treatment, moisturizing cream or serum will be applied.
Coloring of the eyebrows can be done immediately after this.
Brow Lamination Aftercare
Aftercare is super important to maintain your new look!
To make sure you maintain healthy and hydrated eyebrow hairs, it is strongly recommended to avoid getting your brows wet for at least 24 hours after the treatment.
This means no sauna, no steam rooms, and no swimming pools. In that period, you should also avoid direct sunlight and make sure not to brush or rub your eyebrows.
After one day, you can gently cleanse your brows with a mild cleanser and pat them dry with a towel.
If your brows are still feeling stiff after they've been laminated, try using an oil-free moisturizer on the area until they soften up.
Lastly, do not use skin products that contain strong acids and avoid sleeping with makeup on your face to avoid irritation.
